He’s a St. Louis Cardinal.
Libertyville High School graduate Jacob Booden, who had a solid career for Bradley University, has signed a free agent contract with the World Champions.
The 6-foot-9 right-hander, who was not drafted by the Cardinals, has been assigned to the rookie Applachian League. He’ll pitch for Johnson City, which is located in Tennessee.
Booden, who resides in Vernon Hills, was extremely durable during his four years at Bradley. He ended his career with 65 career pitching appearances.
His role with the Braves this spring was working late relief. He finished 2-2 with a 2.84 earned run average in 28 appearances. He had 42 strikeouts in 31-plus innings. He allowed only 24 hits and held the opposition to a .216 batting average.
Booden made the record books at Bradley. His 28 relief appearances is a single-season school record. His 65 career appearances puts him in a tie for third all-time.
One of his teammSates, Lake Forest second baseman Chris Godinez, was named to the Louisville Sluggers Freshman All-American team. He also was second-team all-conference.
