Updated: June 19, 2012 8:38PM
Libertyville High School’s Brian Scanlan, a key wide receiver for the Wildcats’ sophomore team in 2011, was invited to attend the Junior Rank Sports Elite Prodigy Camp.
The camp will be held at North Collier Regional Park, in Naples, Fla., July 25-28.
Scanlan (6-foot-2, 175 pounds) has been training with former NFL quarterback Jeff Christensen — owner of Throw it Deep Quarterback and Receiving Academy, based at Riverside-Brookfield High School — in conjunction with former Chicago Bears receiver Tim Ehlebracht.
“Brian is extremely dedicated to learning and improving,” Christensen said. “He is very coachable, and comes to practice with the desire to learn and get better. He’s a worker — and he gets ‘it.’ ”
The Prodigy Camp, an invite-only event, will be broken down by grade and position. Each camper will have an opportunity to showcase skills against top competition, as well as a chance to earn a spot in the 2013 Proving Ground Combine or Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl, in Los Angeles, in January.
In addition to measuring combine skills such as the 40-yard dash, vertical leap and shuttle run, the camp will employ specific evaluations during 1-on-1, 7-on-7 and 9-on-9 competitions.
The camp will be filmed for CBS Sports Television, with extensive on-site coverage being provided by 247Sports.com.
