On the final day of April, Alex Young was being Alex Young.
In an 8-1 road win at Niles Notre Dame on Monday, the Carmel Catholic left-hander once again was virtually unhittable. He allowed no earned runs and only two hits over 5-plus innings. He had nine Ks and only two walks.
“The team is really comfortable when he’s on the hill, and they have a right to be,” said Carmel head coach Joe May. “We know we’ll be in the game.”
Young, a Texas Christian recruit, has been special all season. Selected as the Pioneer/McDonald’s Senior Athlete of the Month, Young has put together some impressive numbers.
Following his outing at ND, he has a 4-1 record with an 0.30 ERA. He has allowed only one earned run this spring, while he’s struck out 41 batters in 23-plus innings with 12 walks.
One of his highlights was tossing a five-inning no-hitter against rugged Joliet Catholic, which is 5-1 in the ESCC, on April 21.
