Libertyville boys lacrosse team started out slow.
But it didn’t stay that way on Monday night. The Wildcats came out blazing in the second half and wound up taking down Stevenson 10-7. They scored eight times after intermission.
Balanced scoring did the trick for Libertyville, as six different players put in goals. Nick Ward, Zach Labrum, AJ Schmidt and Connor Loucks each score two goals each.
Luke Stelzner and Zach Friedman also tallied, while Phil Santi finished with three assists.
Anthony Zotto controlled the face-offs the whole game, giving the Wildcats added possessions.
The defense struggeld early, allowing three of the game’s first four goals. But Clay Cusek, Drew Krininsky, JP Pistella and Kevin Verkler held tight against the Patriots offense while goalie Cole Blazer had seven saves.
A busy Libertyville High School boys tennis team posted two wins in three matches, beating Lake Zurich 5-2 on April 22, falling to Stevenson 6-1 two days later, and bouncing back with a 5-2 win over Mundelein on April 26.
Alex Winters netted the Wildcats’ only victory in singles play against the Mustangs, winning 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3.
Libertyville swept Mundelein in doubles. Jack Springgate and Eric Klein won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1; Adam Daluga and Adam Grabowski prevailed 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2; Nishad Phadke and Stefan Markovic triumphed 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3; and the No. 4 tandem of Duncan Millar and John Mattiolli won 6-2, 6-4.

The Wildcats’ two winners in doubles action were Springgate/Klein, a 6-2, 6-0 victor at No. 1, and Grabowski/Daluga by a 6-0, 6-4 count at No. 3.
Markovic and Phadke managed Libertyville’s only conquest against the Patriots, winning 6-3, 7-5 at No. 4 doubles.
