While their numbers may be dwindling, veterans who volunteer for service organizations like the American Legion and VFW play a critical role in organizing local Memorial Day events -- to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for their country. In Libertyville, members of the American Legion and VFW organize a silent parade that starts Memorial Day morning at the downtown Metra station and proceeds down to Cook Park for a memorial ceremony. District 75 approves teachers contract Mundelein Elementary School District 75 has reached a new two-year contract with its teachers’ union, the Mundelein Elementary Education Association. The new contract begins on July 1 and runs through June 30, 2014. Under the new contract, each teacher will receive an increase in salary of .5 percent plus a 2 percent step increase based on experience for the 2012-2013 school year. In the 2013-2014 school year, each teacher will receive an increase of 1.5 percent, plus a 2 percent step increase based on experience. The new starting salary for next year will be $34,373. …
