St. Mary of the Lake to host leadership course The University of St. Mary of the Lake in Mundelein hosts its annual Christopher Leadership Weekend Course for adults from March 9 to 11. Community members can join seminarians in a leadership-training program conducted in the framework of the Gospel message. Members of the U.S. House of Representatives voted to bar members of Congress and their staff from using inside legislative information in personal stock trading. Members empowered presidents to veto discretionary-spending items providing that both houses of Congress then vote to approve of the rescissions. Members also required new rules for figuring the budgetary impact of federal loan programs. Senators, meanwhile, approved a federal aviation budget, and they advanced a bill to authorize federal road, bridge, transit and highway-safety programs through Sept. 30, 2013.

The bitter cold temperatures that hit the Chicago area over the weekend are expected to give way to snow Monday and then milder weather by the end of the week. Temperatures are expected to climb to 35 degrees on Monday, when there is an 80 percent chance of snow after 3 p.m., according to the National Weather Service’s website. About two inches of accumulation is possible by Tuesday morning. Police set to host self-defense class The Mundelein Police Department is hosting a free class for women 18 and over who are interested in learning self-defense tactics. Seventeen year olds with parental permission will also be allowed to attend. The class will be held on Tuesday nights between 6 to 8 p.m. beginning Feb. 21 and ending March 13 at the Mundelein Police Department, 221 North Lake St. Students should wear loose fitting workout clothes. Mark Kirk’s condition has been upgraded from “fair” to “good.” Doctors hope to be able to re-attach the 8-inch-by-4-inch section of his skull that had to be removed after he suffered a stroke two weeks ago. New bus turnaround to be built at Adler Park School

After months of negotiations with the village of Libertyville and Lake County Forest Preserve District, Libertyville School District 70 has reached an agreement for the installation of a new bus turnaround near the rear of Adler Park School. District 70 school officials halted construction on a proposed bus turnaround at the school last August because of concerns by parents and community members about encroachment on an adjacent ballfield in Adler Park and a playground area behind the school.
