Trax Tavern and Grill in Deerfield has brand-new, healthier menu items. Robert Cohn, general manager of the restaurant, said that he began looking at healthier choices after talking to customers. “We are very customer-oriented,” Cohn said. “I talked to the parents about it, and they said they would rather have their kids have a smoothie than a soda to drink. So we added a smoothie machine.” Smoothies, in a variety of fruit flavors like strawberry and banana, sell for $3.99. Teen employment has continued to plummet in Illinois, according to a new report from Northeastern University. The rate dived to 27.5 percent in 2011, the lowest teen employment rate in the 42 years for which data is available. It is down from just under 50 percent in 1999-2000 and from 36 percent in 2007.

Dow Chemical to bring 400 jobs to Chicago

Mayor Rahm Emanuel will announce Tuesday that Dow Chemical Co. is bringing 400 jobs to Chicago. The diversified manufacturer based in Midland, Mich., will establish a sales center downtown and will move jobs here from elsewhere in the Midwest, the mayor’s office said. The transfers are expected to occur over the next three years. A source said the company is scouting several office locations and will settle on one soon.
