Libertyville baseball field upgrades are a big hit

New dugouts and other improvements at one of the baseball fields at the Libertyville Little League complex at Butler Lake have been a bit hit among kids and fans. The Libertyville Little League recently completed about $70,000 in upgrades at its AAA Field. Bill Bennett, president of Libertyville Little League, said before the field improvements were completed this spring the league was only able to use that field for 10-year-old games because of the size of the field dimensions and lack of foul space behind home plate. Sergio Vazquez sipped a glass wine and enjoyed conversation with friends while a jazz band performed at the Parkview Gourmet in Libertyville last Friday. In her 45 years as a volunteer at Advocate Condell Medical Center, Janice Savidis has provided immeasurable help to hospital staff and much-needed support to patients. “I thoroughly enjoy doing this. People let you know you’re appreciated,” said Savidis, 91, of Libertyville. Because of Savidis’ years of dedicated service to the hospital, she was recently recognized as Condell’s Outstanding Volunteer of the Year for 2011. Savidis started out as a volunteer at Condell in 1967 and worked for one year in a small gift shop. She decided she wanted more patient interaction and was moved over to the dietary area, …
