Kennedy will reform state’s attorney office

Updated: March 13, 2012 9:43AM

I am a life-long Republican, but on March 20 I am voting for Democrat Chris Kennedy for state’s attorney. This office is no place for partisan politics, so I am choosing the best person for the job. Considering the current state of this office with a now infamous record of wrongful convictions alongside the politicization of prosecuting decisions, there is no doubt we need to bring real reform to this office.

Not only is Chris an experienced prosecutor, but he also has a record of working successfully with Republicans and Democrats when he spent years in Springfield advocating on behalf of people with disabilities. His successful statewide advocacy work also represents his ability to be a great leader and bring reform to the most challenging of venues. I have no doubt he will bring those same skills to revamp and reform our State’s Attorney’s Office.

Lastly, as a resident of the same town as Chris, I have witnessed his commitment to his family and his commitment to our community, serving his second term on the School Board. I know that with Chris in charge of our state’s attorney’s office, we will be safer, justice will always trump politics, and our state’s attorney’s office will become a role model for other communities to replicate.
