Pet of the Week: Zeus loves to learn and please
Zeus

Zeus is a handsome guy. He’s only three years old and deserves a long and happy life. He is extremely smart and knows many, many commands. He can sit, stay and lay down -- those are the easy ones. He also can speak, roll over and jump on a stool. He loves to learn and he loves to please.
This intelligent dog was left in a kill shelter. And there was a reason. Zeus has separation anxiety. It’s when a dog, for whatever reason, hates being left alone. However, there are ways to overcome this. Many ways.
Medication sometimes works to calm a dog. Sometimes having another dog works so there is company at hand. Personally, we have learned with our dog that if we leave the television on and put some newspapers on the bed (for him to shred), he’s fine. Bear in mind that my dog, Bentley, is a certified therapy dog who spent every day in a classroom last year helping young children feel loved and cared for. He is an amazingly wonderful dog -- but, yes, he does have separation anxiety.
Don’t let that fact cause you to overlook Zeus. He, too, is a dog with a lot to give. He’s affectionate, he loves people, he wants to learn, and, perhaps most importantly, he’s housebroken.
If you have a home where someone is home a lot, or if you can take a dog to work, visit Zeus. His family will need to figure out how to keep him safe while he’s home alone, and this special dog is worth a lot of special effort.
Save-A-Pet is committed to saving animals without the killing. They take in animals from many sources and the volunteers work with dogs. While you’re at Save-a-Pet, make a donation if you can. The cats and dogs there will appreciate it.
