Mundelein pro to play in Australian tennis tourney
Mundelein resident Adam Morgan, racquets associate at the Lake Forest Club, will be representing the United States in the Kia Amateur Australian Open Tennis Tournament Jan. 26-29 in Melbourne, Australia, during the second week of the Australian Open.
He will be the U.S. representative in both the men’s tournament and the mixed doubles tournament, competing against representatives from 15 other countries.
To qualify, Morgan won the Midwest qualifying tournament last summer. In October, he competed against the winners of the other four regions in the United States, losing in the finals in a close match against an opponent from the Boston area. However, the winner was recently disqualified for unspecified reasons, allowing Morgan to advance as the U.S. representative.
Morgan has competed in the qualifying event during each of the past five years, and won the Midwest region each year. In the tournament against the other regional winners to advance to the Kia Amateur Australian Open, he finished second in 2008, 2010 and 2011, and came in third in 2009.
