Newsmakers: Mundelein’s Smith accepted by Teach For America

Libertyville resident Jillian Daugerdas has completed the Century 21 “Create 21” real estate training class. Among other topics, the course included training on using the tools and technology available to today’s real estate professional.

Daugerdas has lived in the Chicagoland area for the past 12 years.Prior to beginning a career in real estate, she was a fundraising manager for a non-profit organization.

Smith commits to Teach For America

Dexter Smith, a Mundelein native, has been accepted into the 2011 corps of Teach For America, a national corps of top recent college graduates who commit to teach for two years in urban and rural public schools and become lifelong leaders in the pursuit of educational equity.

Smith is a 2007 graduate of Mundelein High School and 2011 graduate of The University of Georgia. He will teach in Houston.

Smith joins Teach For America’s incoming corps of 5,200 new teachers. These corps members earned an average undergraduate grade point average of 3.6, and 100 percent held leadership positions while in college.

Grant provides
jobs for teens

The Mundelein Park & Recreation District (MPRD) announced seasonal positions available for teens, ages 16 thru 19. Thanks to a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). The grant is part IDNRs Illinois Youth Recreation Corps which provides funding to local sponsors, like Mundelein Park District, for opportunities for youth employment in the areas of recreation and conservation.

With this grant, MPRD has established five new, seasonal positions in ground maintenance, with one as a supervisory role. Interested candidates can complete an application online at www.mundeleinparks.org or stop by the Park District’s Community Center, 1401 N. Float takes first

Century 21 Kreuser & Seiler received a first-place award for their float entry in this year’s Libertyville Days Parade. In addition, they held their 1st annual Dog Contest.

“We constructed three different size dog houses for our float and decorated them based on this year’s parade theme of “Peace, Love & Libertyville” said Jeff Matheson, float co-chair. “We invited our Dog Contest winners to walk with us in the parade as we handed out dog treats and Oscar Mayer Weiner Whistles” he added.

Anniversary
is coming

Eclectic Design Source opened its doors last May and the mother-daughter design duo will celebrate with a “Better Late Than Never” year anniversary at 6 p.m. on Aug. 5 at 518 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville.
