Libertyville awards $3.7 million for roads

LIBERTYVILLE — The $20 million tax increase that Libertyville voters approved last year to fix their roads will soon be put to use.
The village board voted on Feb. 12 to award a roughly $3.7 million contract for this year’s phase of the project to A-Lamp Concrete. The contractor can not exceed this amount without board approval.
Pavement reconstruction is scheduled to be done on a total of 39 village streets throughout the year. The most expensive to rehabilitate are Crane Boulevard at an estimated cost of $364,000, Fourth Avenue at just less than $303,000 and Furlong Drive at nearly $269,000.
Public Works Director John Heinz said water main work will begin in March and pavement reconstruction will start in early April, tentatively.
Residents will soon received a letter about the project, Heinz said. It will contain information about how to receive updates online regarding which streets are under construction at any given time.
In addition, notices may also be hand-delivered to specific residential areas when nearby construction may affect them directly.
Heinz added that for the first time, the village will also have a hotline residents can call to get the latest construction updates.
As this road work gears up — and the work at routes 21 and 137 continues to experience delays and cause headaches — Heinz said the newest work won’t be an undue burden on residents.
“There will be very few times when people can’t get down their street or into their driveway,” he said.
