LIBERTYVILLE — Police officials said heroin is the apparent cause of death for 20-year-old Libertyville resident Timothy McCann.

At roughly 8:30 p.m. Jan. 31, Libertyville police and fire departments responded to a report of an unresponsive male in a home on north Third Street.

Emergency lifesaving procedures were performed and McCann was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was pronounced dead.

Officers at the scene determined that heroin use was involved and started an investigation with the aid of the Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group, officials said.

Byron J. Sullivan, 21, was identified as the drug supplier and was arrested at approximately 4 a.m. last Friday in his home at 1117 N. East End Ave. in Round Lake Beach.

Sullivan faces charges of drug-induced homicide, unlawful delivery of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.

He was given a $1 million cash bond and was schedule to appear in court at 9 a.m. Feb. 5.

An autopsy was performed on McCann last Friday. But results will not be released until officials receive results from toxicology reports, which can take several weeks to process.

According to McCann’s Facebook profile, he was a 2010 graduate of Libertyville High School. Sullivan is friends with McCann on Facebook and is also listed as a 2010 graduate of the school, though this information was not confirmed with school officials.

Heroin has become popular with suburban teens in recent years, prompting parents, school and police officials to hold several forums on the danger of the drug.
