Newsmakers: Mundelein High School graduate completes Marine training

Hill completes her recruit training
Marine Corps Pvt. Rachelle M. Hill, daughter of Charlene M. Hill and granddaughter of Marie A. Tegtmeier of Mundelein, earned the title of United States Marine after graduating from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S. C.
Hill is a 2011 graduate of Mundelein High School.
Dozen earn the rank of Eagle Scout
Libertyville Boy Scout Troop 72, chartered by the United Methodist Church, announced the following young men have earned the rank of Eagle Scout: Dan Schilling, Nick Jennings, Naveen Rajadhyaksha, Eric Cashman, Peter Feely, Matt Berklan, Albert Cowsky, Max Goin, Brad Rafferty, Peter Madigan, Charlie Meyer, and Tyler Crusey.
Each scout demonstrated their leadership skills with a comprehensive service project designed to help the underprivileged, the hungry, the environment, or local community groups.
These scouts participated in many activities including Camp Makajawan, Merit Badge workshops, a variety of service projects, and attended High Adventure treks including The Boundary Waters, Philmont Scout Ranch, Sea Base, Isle Royale, Apostle Islands, and the National Jamboree.
Local dancers win at nationals
Company Dancers at Jenny’s Dance Centre scored big at Onstage New York Grand Finale National Dance Competition, held in Orlando, Fla. July 13-17 with nearly 45 dances. Competing against several hundred dancers from across the country, the JDC Company brought home the Overall National Mini/Junior Entertainment Award, the Overall National Teen/Senior Entertainment Award, and the coveted Senior Critics Choice Award. Jenny’s Dance Centre also won special awards for Exceptional Grace, Concept, Staging, Stage Presence, Expression, Precision and Costumes.
In addition to top group dance awards in each category, JDC Company Dancers claimed major success with individual dances, including three of the top ten national teen soloists (Zoe Draznik, Emily Poth, and Daniella Martino), four of the top ten national senior soloists (Cassie Austin, Maggie Rogers, Caleigh Silver and Sammy Shipp), and third place overall teen duo/trio (Cassie Campbell and Zoe Draznik), and in particular the Triple Threat Award, won by Cassie Austin of Libertyville, for her outstanding singing, dancing, and acting performance.
The JDC Company is comprised of 28 dancers. Lake Bluff: Molly Dasso, Nell Dasso, Marisa Giangiorgi, Sydney Golde, Sarah Kuetemeyer, Elizabeth Meulbroek, Nina Montalbano and Maggie Rogers. Lake Forest: Meredith Delaney, Caroline Martino, Daniella Martino, Lilly Neil, Emily Poth, Sammy Shipp, Caleigh Silver, Bria Slobodnik, Nicolette Stern and Olivia Witmer. Libertyville: Cassie Austin, Clarisse Austin, Brenna Bradley, Gillian Bradley, Cassie Campbell and Jillian Campbell. Green Oaks: Amy Stouffer. Lake Villa: Ashley Bates. Palatine: Zoe Draznik. Winnetka: Mackenzie Nolan.
