LIBERTYVILLE — Two teens were hospitalized when the vehicle they were riding in crashed into a utility pole while fleeing police in northwest suburban Libertyville.

Libertyville police said Tuesday an officer pulled over the vehicle at 2:24 a.m. Monday on Lake Street, just west of Milwaukee Avenue. As the officer got out of his squad car, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed west on Lake Street toward Butler Lake and crashed into a pole west of West Street.

The two male teens were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center, Libertyville, with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Police are not releasing their names due to the ongoing investigation.

The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team is assisting in the investigation. No charges have been filed.
