New high temperature set in Chicago

A new high temperature for May 27 has been set in Chicago.
The record high temperature for May 27 had been 94 degrees, set in 1911, according to the National Weather Service.
As of 2:51 p.m. Sunday, the official temperature in Chicago, recorded at O’Hare International Airport, was 95 degrees, breaking the old record, according to the weather service. The mercury continued creeping up Sunday afternoon and at 4:51 p.m. the temperature had reached 97 degrees, the weather service said.
An Air Quality Action Day has been declared for portions of the metropolitan area in northwest Indidna for Sunday afternoon and evening, according to the weather service. Ozone levels are expected to be in the unhealthy range.
For the larger Chicago area, hot weather will continue today with highs this afternoon peaking in the mid to upper 90s, resulting in heat indices approaching or possibly exceeding, 100 degrees.
Thunderstorms are likely Monday afternoon and Monday night, ahead of a cold front, according to the weather service. Some of the thunderstorms may become severe.
