Famous Dave’s closes in Vernon Hills

The Famous Dave’s restaurant in Vernon Hills has closed.

The restaurant chain, known for its award-winning barbecue ribs, chicken and barbecue sandwiches, announced that it was closing its restaurant on Route 60 on April 29 in connection with the expiration of its lease for the restaurant space.

“Famous Dave’s has been proud to be a member of the Vernon Hills community, and it has been an honor to get to know our guests there,” noted Brett Rainwater, director of operations for Famous Dave’s of America, in a company press release.

Company officials did not indicate specific reasons for the closure other than to say it was a business decision based on a lease expiration issue.

A-May-Zing Mundelein set for May 19

Local businesses, residents, students and various organizations are asked to join Project C.A.P.E. (Creating a Positive Environment), the Village of Mundelein and the Mundelein Police Department on May 19 for the 17th annual A-May-Zing Mundelein volunteer cleanup.

A-May-Zing Mundelein provides volunteers with the opportunity to help Mundelein residents, in particular senior citizens, with various household chores from cleaning gutters to washing windows, mowing lawns, planting flowers or vegetables, pulling weeds and other various cleaning projects.

This year the Mundelein Fire Department has volunteered to do some minor exterior home repairs including repairs to broken gates, loose steps, rotten deck boards, loose railings, broken door locks and broken light fixtures. The fire department has also offered to perform a smoke detector inspection, which would include replacing any bad batteries or detectors at no cost to the homeowner. Volunteers also cleaned up litter in several common areas of the village.

Members of the community who wish to volunteer, residents in need of assistance, or those who have project suggestions should call (847) 968-3770.

Youth volunteers between the ages of 8 to 17 years old must obtain a waiver for signed by a parent before they are allowed to participate in the program. Registration begins at 8 a.m.
