On May 5, 2012, the Midwest Dance Collective presented its “Secret Garden Ballet”, a benefit fundraiser for Midwest Dance Collective at the Garlands in Barrington.
The event was sold-out and attended by 210 children and adults alike. Guests enjoyed the pre-performance games, auctions, raffles and silent auctions and raised $4,000.
After the Tea-party style Luncheon, Midwest Dance Collective took the stage in their colorful and enchanting presentation of an original ballet choreographed by Ellen Werksman, “The Secret Garden”. Ms Werksman is the Director of MDC, a semi-professional dance ensemble located in Barrington. Dancers from the company with guests from Barrington Artz Center captivated the audience members.
“We are going to use the funds we have raised to travel to Missouri and perform at “The Chance to Dance” Fundraiser for abused and battered children”, said Director Ellen Werksman. “It is an important component of the MDC experience that our dancers understand that we have to continue to share our talent and find ways to help others. We believe in uniting the community through dance”.
