Step out to help fund weekend lunches for kids at Kentucky Derby party in South Barrington

All dressed for the Derby and no place to go?
Whether you prefer seersucker suits or are more a fan of Philip Treacy, head to the Millrose Restaurant, 45 S. Barrington Road, Saturday to watch the annual “Run for the Roses” while supporting a local cause.
The fundraiser for Barrington Children’s Charities begins at 3 p.m. Tickets are $85 per person, and include an open bar, lunch, raffle and silent auction, prizes for the best dressed and live music by Exit 147.
The charity, spearheaded by Tom and Darby Hills of Barrington Hills, serves children in District 220. A portion of the proceeds is earmarked to fund a new program for kids on the federal free and reduced price meal program.
In partnership with Blessings in a Backpack, the group provides local elementary children in need with a backpack filled with food for 38 weekends during the school year. This helps bridge the gap on weekends when school lunch programs are unavailable.
Those looking to put money down on a sure thing can donate $80 to sponsor a child for the entire school year. For that donation, guests receive a cup for Derby Day libations — mint juleps or otherwise.
