Children’s Home + Aid sponsored its seventh Champions Luncheon on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the Palmer House.

John W.McCarter, Jr., president of the Field Museum, received the For the Love of Children Award for his noteworthy dedication to social services and steadfast commitment to children and families. Carol Bernick, last year’s Love of Children Award was the presenter.

David Speer, Chairman, ITW, was the recipient of the Corporate Partner of the Year of Award. Mr. Speer is receiving this honor for ITW’s many years of commitment and support to children and families served by Children’s Home + Aid. The award was accepted by ITW’s David Parry

The Honorable Toni Preckwinkle, President of the Cook County Board, presented the 2012 Blue Bow Awards to Senator Jacqueline Collins, Senator Mattie Hunter and Representative Esther Golar. The Blue Bow Award recognizes individuals for their outstanding contributions to children and the prevention of child abuse. The Blue Bow is the national symbol of child abuse prevention and every April Children’s Home + Aid recognizes National Child Abuse Prevention Month with Blue Bow ceremonies. The Blue Bow Campaign began in 1989, when Bonnie Finney of Virginia tied a blue ribbon around her car’s antenna in memory of her young grandson who was abused and killed by his parents The guest speaker was Tio Hardiman, Director for CeaseFire Illinois and Creator of the Violence Interrupter Initiative. This award-winning public health model has a mandate to reduce shootings and killings.

The guest list included Dave Abdallah and Paul Wood of Lake Forest, Renee Crown and Paul Mastrapa of Wilmette, George Benningham of Winnetka and from Hinsdale was Tom Murphy.

Nancy Ronquillo is President of Children’s Home + Aid. The event co-chairmen were Mike Fisher of Country Financial, Kelly Grier of Ernst & Young and William Blair’s Tracy McCormick. Rob Johnson of CBS Channel 2 was master of ceremonies.

The 2012 Luncheon had a net of over $450,000.

Children’s Home + Aid is a leading child and family service agency in Illinois. Each year, it protects, educates and counsels more than 40,000 children, youth and families. Since 1883, the organization has been a compassionate advocate helping to shape public policy in child welfare, early childhood and juvenile justice.
