At a March 15 reception in the Ann Brierly Gallery on New Trier’s Winnetka Campus, the North Shore Art League (NSAL) presented awards totaling $1,300 to three New Trier graduating seniors -- Paul Bucci of Winnetka for drawing, Eliza Rawlings of Wilmette for photography, and Madeleine Lyman of Wilmette for drawing.

Fifty-three seniors exhibited six art works in the medium of their choice. The NSAL Scholarship Exhibition was displayed in conjunction with New Trier’s 38th Nancy Joyce Murray Scholarship Exhibition.

The NSAL awards are made possible by contributions from the Paul Weinger Memorial Scholarship Fund, the Nancy and Sanfred Koltun Scholarship Fund, and the Joan Taxay Weinger and Charles Pressman Award Fund. The award applicants submitted digital images of their work, along with a personal statement about their artwork and how it has influenced their high school career.

The awards will be presented at New Trier’s Senior Awards Ceremony on Thursday, May 31.

The jurors for the NSAL awards were David D’Arcy and Carol Haliday-McQueen. D’Arcy has been an arts educator for over 20 years and is a past instructor at the North Carolina Arts Council. He has exhibited in galleries throughout the Midwest and Chicago. Haliday-McQueen is an Associate Professor of Fine Art at Columbia College in Chicago. She teaches painting, drawing, design and color. She is a faculty advisor for the student fine arts group, “Arts Community”.
