Follow the shopping scene and one receives fewer lunch invitations from co-workers.
That’s due to how many fashion designers host trunk shows and make personal appearances at our favorite shops — and my co-workers aren’t at all interested in tagging along.
Which is why I spent my lunch on May 9 with Marco Bicego and fans of his delicate way with uncut sapphires at Neiman Marcus Northbrook.
The Italian jewelry maker came to town to present his collection and to showcase how he uses traditional techniques as a goldsmith. Bicego fashions his works from 18-karat gold and while he can use a bulino (a metal shaping tool), his real passion at this point in his career is finding inspiration to create more jewelry.
His current line is a nod to Jaipur, India — where he finds many of his precious gemstones.
“I am very inspired by the places I travel to, and often I name my collections after the destination that has inspired me — Jaipur, Africa and Paradise,” he said. “For example, in Jaipur I’m inspired by the dynamic culture, history and of course the amazing stones I finds there. All of these thing help to create and inform my collections.”
Prices begin at $495 and are available in store or at neimanmarcus.com
