Family Friendly: Get sporty during Family Fun Night
Families are invited to the Sports Center Family Fun Night to plau dodgeball, do gymnastics and much more Sept. 22.

Be a sport. Take your kids to Sport Center Family Fun Night, 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 at 1141 W. Irving Park Road, Schaumburg. The event, based on Nickelodeon’s Worldwide Day of Play, is designed to “get people out instead of staying inside,” Sports Center Assistant Manager Brian Feldott said.
Families will participate in a variety of structured, supervised sports, games and activities. These include basketball, volleyball, dodgeball, a preschool tot lot, soccer, T-ball, softball and gymnastic obstacle courses. Feldott promises this will be “a fun night of playing sports and gymnastics.”
The event is free for residents and costs $5 per family for nonresidents. Refreshments will be sold. Register in advance and you will receive a gift at the door.

A case of mistaken identity
A penguin raised in Africa believes he is a tiger in, “The Jungle Bunch: The Movie.” The animated film is the Saturday Cinema selection, noon to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at Fremont Public Library, 1170 N. Midlothian Road, Mundelein. Picnic lunches are fine but no popcorn.

Super suspenseful
Gravity will be defied, a brand new vehicle will mysteriously appear and a reflection will come to life during Mike Super’s Magic and Illusion show, 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16 at James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts, College of Lake County, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake. Super combines comedy with illusions. Tickets are $25-$32, $15 for teens and $12 for children younger than 12.

A grand time
Kids ages 3-6 are invited to bring their grandfather and/or grandmother to Grandparents Storytime and Craft, 7 to 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18 at Indian Trails Public Library, 355 S. Schoenbeck Road, Wheeling. They will hear stories, sing, dance to music, work on a craft project and have a snack. Reservations are required.

A-peel-ing
There are many layers of humor in the Puppet Place’s “The Magic Onion,” a wacky take on the fairy tale formula. Characters include a beautiful princess, a handsome prince, a wicked magician and a very hungry dragon. The show takes place at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21 at the Barrington Area Library, 505 N. Northwest Hwy. Tickets will be distributed fifteen minutes before the show.
