1. The North Suburban Symphony will present a Mother’s Day concert, “Beloved Beethoven,” at 4 p.m. May 13 at the Gorton Community Center, 400 E. Illinois Road, Lake Forest. The program includes the overture from Beethoven’s ballet score, “The Creatures of Prometheus,” as well as Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 in F Major (“Pastoral”). Also, Scott Greene, winner of the James Glacking Young Musicians Competition, will perform Carl Maria von Weber’s Clarinet Concerto in E-flat. $18; $10 seniors and students; free for children under 12 with adult ticket purchase. An opening reception for “Malcolm Layson: A Practical Man” will be held from 1-4 p.m. May 12 at the Undercroft Gallery, located in the lower level of the Christ Episcopal Church, 410 Grand Ave., Waukegan. The show includes 25 watercolors, etchings and oil paintings ranging from wartime action in the Pacific Ocean to peaceful family summers in Michigan’s north woods.
