Congressman Brad Schneider (Ill.-10) recently met with a Lake County delegation including area arthritis advocates. Read on for details.

Congressman Brad Schneider (Ill.-10) will be the keynote speaker at the Walk to Cure Arthritis Lake County. Congressman Schneider recently met at his Washington, D.C. offices with a delegation from Lake County. The delegation included juvenile arthritis advocates Sara Clark, Mia Clark, and Danielle Vrba of Libertyville. Congressman Schneider is a co-sponsor of Patients’ Access to Treatments Act (H.R. 460) and Pediatric Subspecialty Loan Repayment Program (H.R. 1827).


The 12th annual Walk to Cure Arthritis Lake County will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Old School Forest Preserve from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm. The event features a three-mile and one-mile course, with arthritis information and activities for the entire family. Pet owners are encouraged to bring their dogs. 


A total of 17 teams are registered to date, with 193 registered participants, including teams from Advocate Condell Medical Center and AOII of Greater Chicago. Event organizers anticipate that 400 attendees will be there to cheer on the walkers. Already, 41% of the event fundraising goal of $53,500 has been received.


Lake County Event VIP’s include:

   Medical Honoree: Evanston resident Dr. Marisa S. Klein-Gitelman, professor of Pediatrics at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine, and division head, Division of Rheumatology at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.



·       Young Adult Honoree: Elizabeth Esposito, a high school senior from Barrington who was diagnosed with JRA at the age of 2.


· Corporate Honoree: Elaine Kempers, OTR/L, MS, is Director of the Orthopedic and Spine Institute at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. 


·       Keynote Speaker: Congressman Brad Schneider (Ill-10), co-sponsor of HR 460 and HR 1827.



The Walk to Cure Arthritis is presented nationally by AMGEN. The national sponsor is Massage Envy Spa and national media sponsor is Arthritis Today. The Lake County Walk to Cure Arthritis is locally presented by Advocate Condell Medical Center.
