LIBERTYVILLE — With the promise of new more than 150 new jobs Volkswagen Credit, Inc. officially opened the new 30,000 square-foot expansion of their Libertyville facility on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
Christian Dahlheim, company executive vice president and CEO, praised Libertyville as an ideal place to work. He said choosing the town for their facility was a smart business decision which has allowed them to draw and retain the best talent.
The $10 million expansion will provide work space for the new employees, and company officials said they expect to continue hiring through 2018. Additional workstations and conference rooms were built, along with a larger dining area, fitness center and 650 parking spaces.
The new jobs will be in customer service, information technology, underwriting as well as support and administrative functions, Dahlheim said. The facility will also be the hub for all IT activities in both the U.S. and Canada.
Dahlheim’s praise for Libertyville shows in the company’s record of volunteer work within the community, said Libertyville Village President Terry Weppler. Weppler thanked the company on Wednesday for encouraging volunteer work among employees.
“Libertyville appreciates the spirit you bring to our community,” he said.
Volkswagen Credit, Inc. is already one of Libertyville’s largest employers, with 530 staffers working in their building at 1401 Franklin Blvd.
Dahlheim said that the addition came in ahead of schedule and on budget and joked about that being a rare event.
Volkswagen Credit, Inc. is owned by Volkswagen Group of America, Inc., but Dahlheim said their growth in recent years makes them a financial powerhouse in their own right. Now managing 950,707 customer accounts, with plans to reach 1 million soon, the company has $22 billion in assets.
Dahlheim thanked employees and said their hard work and dedication made this expansion possible.
According to Chief Product and Marketing Officer Tim Mahoney, Volkswagen Credit, Inc. was rated first in customer service by JD Power & Associates.
“This expansion is about you,” Mahoney said, addressing employees, most of whom appeared to be in attendance.
Volkswagen has experienced three consecutive years of double-digit growth, Mahoney added, saying the company hoped to continue the momentum. In 2012 for instance, 438,133 cars were sold, an increase of 35.1 percent, according to company figures.
Other growth plans were detailed by Audi CEO Mark Del Rosso, which is part of Volkswagen Group of America, Inc.
Mark Del Rosso said the company has set a goal of selling 200,000 Audis by 2020. This would be a considerable increase over their current sales, he said.
