Libertyville Township man killed on railroad tracks

Updated: November 2, 2012 7:40AM

A 47-year-old unincorporated Libertyville Township man was killed on the railroad tracks just east of Milwaukee Avenue Halloween night in Libertyville.

Michael Kenny of the 30000 block of East End was found on the tracks just before 10 p.m. and was pronounced dead on the scene. The man was on the tracks east of the train station behind the neighborhood in the 200 block of Newberry Avenue.

He was struck by an outbound train about 9:44 p.m. and the train engineer reported it to police. Libertyville police and fire assisted in the call, but it was turned over to Metra Police because it was on railroad property.

Metra Police are still investigating the death, but it may be a suicide. The Lake County Coroner’s Office released the man’s name Thursday after notifying family.
