Sun-Times Media announced Tuesday that Jason Schaumburg has been named executive editor of its 32 Pioneer Press titles.
Schaumburg, 37, will oversee Pioneer Press’ newsgathering team, the titles’ continuously updated digital reports and weekly print editions. He will report to publisher Chris Krug.
“I am excited to be joining Pioneer Press and look forward to working with a talented group of journalists,” Schaumburg said. “My vision is simple: Pioneer Press needs to be an indispensable part of the lives of people who live in the communities we serve. We will do that across many platforms to serve our readers.”
A veteran of local community news editing, Schaumburg recently served as senior editor of Shaw Media’s suburban division, overseeing its digital content strategy. As part of his responsibility, Schaumburg was editor of the (DeKalb) Daily Chronicle. Prior to that, he was managing editor for the Crystal Lake-based Northwest Herald. He also was sports editor at Northwest Herald. In all, he was with Shaw Media for 14 years.
Schaumburg is a graduate of Northern Illinois University, where during his college days served as managing editor of the school newspaper, the Northern Star.
He is married with two children and lives in the northwest suburbs.
Pioneer Press also announced that former Northwest Herald night news editor David Lemery had joined the organization as managing editor for Production. Lemery will report to Schaumburg.
